Children Top Purple Sweet
The top is crochet from top down. Front and back are worked in parts and are sewn together when finished. Shoulder straps are added after that and decorative border in contrasting color is crocheted at the end.
Size: 5-6 (7-8, 9-10) years.
Yarn: Cotton Eight – 100% cotton, 50 gr. / 175 m.
Cotton Eight color A – 1260 (lilac) and color B – 1170 (light lilac).
For size 5-6 (7-8, 9-10) years you will need 2 (3, 3) balls color 1260 and 1 ball color 1170.
Hook: 3.50 mm.
Crochet Gauge: width of 20 dr and 10 rows on crochet hook size 3.50 mm = 10 x 10 cm = 4” x 4”.
Because of different crochet techniques used by the individual, the gauge may vary, so you might have to choose different hook size to obtain the correct gauge.
Instructions
The top is crochet from top down. With color A rochet 28 (31, 34) ch using crochet hook size 3.5 mm an.
Option: If you would like to modify the size of the top, you could crochet more or less chains multiples of 3 + 1.
Row 1 (RS): Ch 1 (that doesn’t count as a stitch). Crochet 1 sc in each chain. 28 (31, 34) sc.
Row 2 (WS): Ch 1 (that doesn’t count as a stitch). Crochet 1 sc in the first stitch. *(Crochet 3 ch; skip 2 st and in the next st make 1 sc)* repeat to end of the row.
Row 3: Ch 3 that counts as a first dc. Crochet 2 dc in the first stitch. *(In the next ch3-sp crochet 1 sc. In the sc after the ch3-sp crochet 3 dc)* repeat to end of the row.
Row 4: Ch 3 that counts as a first dc. Ch 1. In the second stitch crochet 1 sc (in the middle st from the group of 3 dc from the row below). *( Ch 3; skip 3 st and in the next stitch crochet 1 sc* repeat to the last stitch. Ch 1. Crochet 1 dc in the last stitch.
Row 5: Ch 1 (that doesn’t count as a stitch). Crochet 1 sc in the first stitch. Skip 1 st (this is the ch1 from the previous row) and in the next st make 3 dc. *(1 sc in the ch3-sp. 3 dc in the next sc)* repeat to the last sc. Make 1 sc in the last stitch.
Row 6: Ch 1 (that doesn’t count as a stitch). Crochet 1 sc in the first stitch. Ch 3, skip 2 stitches and make 1 sc in the next stitch (in the middle st from the group of 3 dc from the row below). *(Ch 3; skip 3 stitches and make 1 sc in the next stitch)* repeat to the last 2 stitches. Ch 2 and make 1 sc in the last stitch.
Repeat row 3-6 3 (4, 5) times more. You will have 18 (22, 26) rows finished.
The armholes are completed.
Option: If you would like to modify the size, you could crochet more of less rows. Just finish with row 6, so you could continue from now on as described below.
Row 1: Ch 3 that counts as a first dc. Make 1 dc in the first stitch. In the ch3-sp from the row below crochet 1 sc *(In the sc after the ch3-sp make 3 dc. In the next ch3-sp make 1 sc)* repeat to the last stitch. In the last stitch make 2 dc.
Row 2: Ch 1 (that doesn’t count as a stitch). Make 1 sc in the first stitch *(ch 3; skip 3 stitches and in the next stitch make 1 sc)* repeat to end.
Repeat row 1-2 14 (15, 16) times more. Leave around 40 cm from the yarn, cut the yarn and pull it through the loop. Leave it to sew the side after the front and back are finished.
Option: If you would like to modify the size crochet less or more rows, just finish with row 2.
Edging: With color B crochet row 1.
Leave around 15 cm from the yarn, cut the yarn and pull it through the loop.
Crochet as front piece.
Sew side seams leaving the armholes open.
With color A crochet 1 sl With color A crochet 1 sl st in the first corner st from the starting chain. Chain 27 (31, 33) and sl st to the opposite site of the shoulder. Leave around 15 cm from the yarn, cut the yarn and pull it through the loop.
Repeat for the second shoulder strap.
Edging around the neck: With color B sl st in the first st from the starting chain (from the RS). *(sc, ch2, sc in the next stitch then skip 1 st)* repeat around the back, the first shoulder strap, the front and the second shoulder strap. Sl st in the first st. Leave around 15 cm from the yarn, cut the yarn and pull it through the loop.
Edging around armholes:
With color B sl st in the center right below the arm (from the RS). Use the same pattern as for the the neck to make the edging around the armholes and on the opposite side of the shoulder strap. Do the same for the other armhole. Sl st in the first st. Leave around 15 cm from the yarn, cut the yarn and pull it through the loop.
