Winter hat with 100% Virginia Rustica

Head circumference – 54-56 cm

Height 21 cm

Needles – 5,5 mm and 6 mm – 40 cm circulars

Guage: 18 sts x 22 rows – 6 mm needles

Using 5,5 mm needles cast on 86 sts and knit in circle 1×1 ribbing – 1 k, 1 p for 14 rows. To fix the hat‘s folding, the next three rows (15th, 16th, 17th) are worked as follows: slip the knit st without working it, the yarn stays st the back of the work, purl one. Continue with the 1×1 ribbing for 12 more rows and add 10 sts evenly in the last 12th row 96 sts.

Change to 6 mm needles and start the row counter from 1.

1st row – knit all sts

2nd row – work the first row of the chart

Continue straight with the chart and work each uneven row as you see the sts.

Forming the top of the hat:

24 row – *p1, k3, k3tog, k3, p1, k2, p2, k1, k3tog, k1, p2, k2* – 4 times – 80 sts

26 row – *p1, k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1, p1, k2, p1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, p1, k2*- 4 times – 64 sts

28 row – *p1, k1, k3tog, k1, p1, k2, p1, k3tog, p1, k2* – 4 times – 48 sts

30 row – *p1, p3tog, p1, k2, p3tog, k2* – 4 times – 32 sts

31 row – k2tog – the whole row – 16 sts

Cut the yarn and thread a needle. Pass it through all the left sts and fasten.

Handwash and lay to dry on a flat surface.

Make a pompom from the yarn and fix it.

3 sts – 2 sts are left in front of the work on a cable needle, p1, k2 from the cable needle


3 sts – 1 st is left behind work on a cable needle, k2, p1 from the cable needle

5 sts – 3 sts are left behind work on a cable needle, k2,  p1, and k2 from the cable needle

Bobble – in one st increase into three sts and work them in three rows, decrease them to one sts again
